Oh Snap Wednesday {linky} - 9/14

{Oh Snap}

My sister-in-law, Anji, asked if I'd take a few pictures of her new little guy. I couldn't wait to get my hands on him again. He is so tiny and adorable. Isn't it strange that I don't remember Noah being that small but he was just 7 short months ago?

Conlan was such a great baby. He slept through the entire shoot and only peed on me once :)
Here are some of my favorite pictures:

I saw a photo like this one on Pinterest. It didn't come out as well as I planned in my head, but it's still cute. Both of my kids were able to hold their head up straight out of my womb so I wasn't used to handling a very sleepy and wobbly baby. If the pocket was a little bigger it would have been perfect.
Mr. G stood in for my brother-in-law, Lt. Todd Wild, who is serving overseas.

Doing nothing is sometimes everything.

Today was excellent.
I woke up to my beautiful blonde-haired girl climbing into bed to cuddle as she does most mornings. Mr. G left for work sometime between Noah's 5:30am feeding and 8 o'clock when Noelle plopped her blue pillow on my knees.

It's not very often that we have nothing planned for the day so when those days come around I try to soak in every second. No hurrying - we do far too much of that, no schedule, no interruptions. Just me and my kids. Some would call it being lazy. I call it being present. How often do you get to ask your kid, "what do you want to do today?" And not have to fit in shopping, cleaning, working? These days are special. Even if "nothing" is accomplished, plenty memories are made.

Noelle loves to snuggle in the morning. I gently run my fingers through her hair until she falls asleep again and I close my eyes until I hear Noah begin to stir in his crib.

Noah has never had a bad morning. He is always happy to see me.

Today Noelle ran in after me and played peek-a-boo with Noah. Their giggles filled my heart with joy.

And Noah showed us his newest trick - pulling himself up.
Oh boy.

I sat down to nurse Noah and Noelle made a bed on the ground. She asked if we can make cupcakes for breakfast and when I ask if she means pancakes, she informs me that she understands the difference between cupcakes and pancakes and wants CUP.CAKES. with frosting.

But first Brinkley needs to be put to bed.
{He's such a good dog}

In the kitchen, dirty dishes remind me of the fun we had yesterday. The house was filled with family - grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins - lots of laughter and fun. When our guests left I ignored the sink and sat on the couch for movie night. It was a great day. And today will be one too. These dishes will have to wait.

"What do you want to do today, Noelle?"
"Go to the park!"

So we went.
She concurred her fear of going down the slide on her belly.

She laughed.

Brinkley watched over us.

 And Noah, despite my wishes for him not to grow too quickly, worked on his crawling skills.

Then it was back home to dance in front of the mirror and play with fairies and princesses until daddy came home.

I'm so thankful for these days. I hope they enjoy them as much as I do.

Oh Snap Wednesday {linky} - 9/7

{Oh Snap}

Introducing my new nephew, Conlan Michael Wild.

Mr. G's twin sister, Anji, welcomed Conlan on August 30th. Conlan joins Celina (16), Cody (11), and Cason (2). Anji's husband, Todd, is in the United States Navy and is currently overseas. He will be home in February. We are certainly thankful for his service and dedication to our country.

Conlan is cousin number 8 for Noelle and Noah! Mr. G and I love our nieces and nephews!

D-A-D, Birthday gift

For Mr. G's birthday present (from the kids) I took some pictures with my trusty chalkboard as a prop. I love the way the collage turned out. This isn't the exact collage that I framed and gave to him, but it's the same pictures and placement. I made the collage that we gave him on a photo printing site. This one was quickly made on an iPhone app.

I love the bottom picture. It looks like they are cuddling but Noah is trying to fit Noelle's shoulder in his mouth. :)

Here are some of my favorite pictures that didn't make the cut (straight out of the camera).

"I didn't do it"

"Roar!"                                                                         "Here she goes again with that camera."

"Mom said it's my turn to hold the chalkboard! Hands off, sis!"

And my pretty princess. It's always hard to pick a picture of her, they are all so cute.

I love this one too.

He stole my heart, so I stole his last name.

Just two weeks after I turned 23, my father walked me down the aisle towards a 6 foot 6 man with dark hair and green eyes. He was 28 and oh so charming.

Even today, seven and a half years later, it's almost unbelievable to think that I married Aaron Gardner. It's crazy really. Let me give you some history.

My father was in the Navy so we moved every three years from military base to military base. The last place we ended up was a small town in California when I was in 2nd grade. We attended a Baptist Church every Sunday and usually sat behind the Gardner family. We called them the "Gardner Wall" because we could never see anything in front of us besides them. Papa Gardner is 6'8" and Aaron is 6'6". There is also Chris and Aaron's twin sister, Anji. They're all tall.

But I didn't mind. I loved sitting behind the Gardner Wall. It meant that I might actually get a chance to talk to Aaron. Tall, dark and handsome. I was 12. He was 17.

I went home after church one day and wrote in my diary that I would marry Aaron Gardner. Of course he didn't feel the same way about me. I was "little Amanda" who liked to wear Nike shirts and play volleyball. But Aaron was always so sweet to me. I'm pretty sure he knew I was in love with him.

When Aaron left for college, I was abandoned in the small town with a bunch of boys who would never live up to my expectations. None of them looked like Aaron, smelled like Aaron, smiled like Aaron, loved God like Aaron. This is where I wish the present me could write a letter to the teenage me saying, "Just wait, Amanda. Just wait." I would have.

I dated some losers in high school but never forgot about Aaron, in fact I talked about him often to my friends and teammates. There was a time when Aaron came to my volleyball practice to help out (because volleyball was just another one of his super awesome skills) and my friends made me pay big time. "Amanda! AARON is here!" ::giggle:: He totally knew I was in love with him.

My mom knew too. She asked him to take me out to a movie when I was a Sophomore. It was Christmas break 1998, Aaron was home visiting his family. He took me to see You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. My favorite movie to this day. We laughed and swayed in our seats to the great music in the film. It was one of the best days of my life.

Aaron and I had a few more encounters. When I was a senior he took me with him on a shopping trip. That evening we went on a "dollar date" at Walmart. He bought me a year 2000 gold keychain. I can't remember what I bought him.

Another time, I drove down to San Luis Obispo to visit him. I was taking a photography class and needed to fill my portfolio. He offered to take me to all of his favorite spots. But first we toured the Madonna Inn and I dared him to buy a cowboy hat. That was in 2003.

(I took a picture of him in his new hat on our way to the beach. It hangs in our bedroom)

In 2004 I ran into my "future in-laws" (which is what I called them) at the mall. I wrote my number down and told them to tell Aaron to call me if he was ever in town. He called a few months later. We met at Red Robin. Then we sang karaoke at a bar. Then danced in the parking lot at Denny's. A stranger called us soul mates.

In March 2005, I married him. My childhood crush. My best friend. My soul mate.

Now the father of my children.

Sometimes I look at him and see the 17 year old boy I fell in love with all those years ago (ahem...19 years ago!).
::snicker::
Happy Birthday, my love.

Your Bride,
Amanda
