Wine Cork Letter

I'm loving adding a single letter around the house to complete a gallery wall or as a bookend. I put a large "G" in our Master Bedroom and we have a small "G" on our fireplace mantel in the living room. So if you are a letter fan, and also enjoy wine, you'll appreciate this project.

Supplies:
Wine Corks - I asked for corks when Mr. G and I were wine tasting a year ago and was handed 3 bags of them. If you don't have the same luck I saw a bag of corks at Michaels. Bring a coupon.
Letter - this one is from Hobby Lobby (for a friend who is getting married next month).
Glue gun / glue sticks

A tutorial really isn't needed here. Glue the corks to the letter...

Although, there is some strategy involved. It's kind of like putting a puzzle together. But if the pieces don't fit, cut them.
Use a razor blade to quarter the cork, then use the pieces as filler for any gaps.
A knife won't work. Trust.

And about an hour later you have a gorgeous letter that would look great anywhere in the house.

Like on your mantel

Or on a shelf

And to die for in a gallery wall. Just stick a picture frame Command strip to the back and you're set!

If you don't have time to drink 50 bottles of wine make your own, you can order one from my Etsy shop Amanda G Designs. Thanks for stopping by!

  27. Any restaurant that serves wine is likely to have leftover corks. Just ask them to save them for you instead of tossing them. What a neat idea!

  28. I love this! The texture and neutrality of color in cork is unbeatable, isn't it?

  36. I've been saving wine corks for some time now to do something special with them...to make keepsakes out of all those. I recently saw the letter thing on Pinterest and knew right away that this was what I wanted! I do have a question though...I want to shape an 'S' with the corks...do you think it'll be difficult (with all the curves in the letter), and also what material did you use in the back for support and where did you get it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't think an S will be difficult since the corks are round. Start with the curves first and work your way towards the ends. The "C" is a wooden letter from Hobby Lobby. They have similar ones at Michael's.

  39. I would love to do this... But I want a "huge" letter for my entry way. Do you know of any places that I might be able to get the "background?"

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Dre. At Joann's they have very large paper mache letters. You can glue to corks to the sides and on the front, instead of gluing them on end, glue them laying flat. It would be quite a puzzle but would look great. Or get a large piece of plywood and have the letter cut out. Good luck!
