I leave the freshly stained wood in the garage for 24 hours to let it dry and air out. If the weather is nice, I'll leave them outside. I haven't had a problem with them smelling after a day or two. Good luck. Let me know how it goes.
AmandaGrowing Up Gardnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11716258430999829476noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6596978500940512738.post-40111142523666800872013-02-09T15:25:19.255-08:002013-02-09T15:25:19.255-08:00Thank you so much. Do you use oil based stains??? Are there other options where the smell isn't so strong. A lower voc I am guessing.

Thanks so much, Amanda! I stained the wood first, then used a fine point paint pen to trace the letters. I wouldn't use a paint pen to fill in the numbers - it won't be crisp and will fade over time. I use acrylic paint.
AmandaGrowing Up Gardnerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11716258430999829476noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6596978500940512738.post-29670810532054139582012-11-27T12:40:06.215-08:002012-11-27T12:40:06.215-08:00Pine and Cedar work well for these projects. Are you tracing with a white pencil or something? Does a paint pen work over stain or does regular paint work better? I wondered what the overall dimensions are for this. I found a desk on Pinterest that my husband will make for me to make them...it folds up into the wall! I AM NERVOUS about painting the letters...hope I can do it.
