Frozen was a big hit around our house at the time and sis insisted on a Frozen party. We decided to embrace the heat and Olaf's love for summer and run with that theme.<br />
My color scheme was teal, purple, and pink. With lots of flowers and all things sunny!<br />
Let's Go Bring Back Summer!<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-2.jpg" height="400" width="266" /></a><br />
<br />
I used the picnic scene from Olaf's 'In Summer' song as inspiration for the lunch table. It was an easy build-you-own hamburger bar with hot dogs and cold salads. Great on such a warm day.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-18.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-18.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-18.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
The hanging planters were pretty cheap at Lowes and the lovely blue mason jars were in the dollar section at Target.<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-13.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-13.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-13.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Of course we had to make snowmen, aka snow cones. Michael's had a package of Frozen wall decals which I used to embellish the snow cone machine and the centerpieces.<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-10.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-10.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-10.jpg" height="492" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Galvanized buckets with stickers made for an easy but adorable centerpiece.<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-9.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
The other table centerpieces were water pitchers with flowers that sadly wilted in the heat after a couple of hours.<br />
Instead of Let it Go, I went with Let it GROW.<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-12.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-12.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-12.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
The water slide entertained the kiddos during the party.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-14.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-14.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-14.jpg" height="528" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Dessert table!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-4.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-4.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-4.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
How amazing are these cake pops? Almost too cute to eat!<br />
The party favors were flower seeds in Let it Grow muslin bags, and Frozen puzzles.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-5.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-5.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
For the cake pops, I grabbed a case of flowers from Lowes and wrapped it in burlap. Then stuck the pops into the soil.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-6.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-6.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-6.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Rice Krispy Treats with little bees.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelleblog6Frozen-7.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelleblog6Frozen-7.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelleblog6Frozen-7.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I surprised Noelle by asking our friend Jessica to dress up as Elsa. She is the most amazing Elsa!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelle%206-2-30.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noelle 6-2-30.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelle%206-2-30.jpg" height="540" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
For some piñata fun, I bought this super inexpensive sun piñata at JoAnn's and took off the smiley face then added the Elsa and Anna sticker.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noelle%206-2-21.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="In Summer Frozen Party Sun Piñata photo Noelle 6-2-21.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noelle%206-2-21.jpg" height="534" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
It was a fun twist on the Frozen theme!<br />

I love Christmas music. Like, a lot. I'm sure I've mentioned that a time or two. In fact, the first song Noah sang was Jingle Bells and it's probably no surprise that Noelle knows all the words to The First Noel. With Christmas music filling the house I decided to add a couple more pieces with Christmas lyrics. One of my favorite lines is from Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. "Let your heart be light."<br />

I only added a few new details to our tree this year, including a few plaid pieces and branch stars.<br />
<br /></div>

<br />
Someone once told me to "put anything you want on your tree." There's no rules. The plaid ribbon in the tree is actually two table runners. I also stuck in deer antlers and an american flag. </div>

I was editing pictures of our Disneyland trip earlier this week and I scrolled past February and was reminded that I have yet to share his really fun Locomotive Party (or Noelle's Frozen party in June).<br />
<br />
Six months ago Noah was <i>really</i> into trains. Actually anything with wheels, but since he already had a <a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/2013/02/colorful-race-car-birthday-party-noah.html">race car party</a>, we decided on a train theme. Today the train, plane, and car toys are stuffed in an ottoman in the playroom and have been replaced with all things Star Wars. All. Things. I hear the Imperial March a billion times a day. Along with, "Where's the blue storm trooper?" and "Mommy, I'm Hans Solo and you're Padme Amidala."<br />
<br />
Rewind back to February and we had a happy little conductor at his train party. Here are some of the details.<br />
<br />
My super handy dad whipped up this railroad crossing sign with some extra wood from the shop. It's a legit railroad sign. Like, I could put it up on a road and people would look around for tracks.<br />
Chalkboard sign and luggage from Hobby Lobby.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noahturns3-10.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noahturns3-10.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noahturns3-10.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
The big attraction at his party was this fun "train" made out of barrels and dollies. We borrowed it from a local church (my dad plays in a church softball league and has all the connections). I added "Noah Express" and "Choo Choo" to the train to personalize it a bit.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noahturns3-8.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noahturns3-8.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noahturns3-8.jpg" height="425" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
CHOO CHOO! The kids LOVED the train rides around the neighborhood.<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noahturns3-9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noahturns3-9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noahturns3-9.jpg" height="640" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
The train was pulled by an electric golf cart, driven by Conductor Grandpa.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noahturns3-14.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noahturns3-14.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noahturns3-14.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The FOOD! The was the first time I used a chocolate fountain and everyone really enjoyed it. For dipping I served massive strawberries, rice krispy treats, and marshmallows. I stuck with red, white and blue (and bandana print) for the color scheme and used the train image as much as I could. It was even on Noah's shirt for the party!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/Noahturns3-3.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo Noahturns3-3.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noahturns3-3.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I spotted this red tub at Home Goods and couldn't pass it up. Actually, I did pass it up and then sent Aaron back into the store to get it! It's been a useful purchase. For the other beverages I used Noah's changing table which I donated a couple weeks later.<br />
<br />

The printer transfer paper was really easy to use. I just made the design, printed it out, and ironed the design on.<br />

I'm a <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/AmandaGdesigns?ref=si_shop">sign maker,</a> so of course I had to paint a few signs for the party. <br />

One of my favorite elements in creating a party is the centerpieces. These cost less than 10 bucks to make. The pail and #3 were purchased at Michael's and the plant was $3 at Lowe's. The bandana was $1 at Walmart and brings the theme together on each table. The bandana on the dessert table (scroll back up) is actually a scarf from Forever 21!<br />

My <a href="http://www.559photography.com/">brother-in-law</a> always takes amazing pictures of the kids for their birthday. These are my favorite shots.<br />

Down the road from our house a purple-haired lady has this caboose on the side of her yard. Her family was very kind to allow us on her property but we quickly learned that they had a few screws loose. We were there for a quick 20 minute shoot.<br />

It's thrilling to be able to create pieces for couples to enjoy in their homes for many, many years. I honestly thought it would be stressful making guest books for weddings but I've been blessed to work with incredibly thoughtful and creative brides (and some grooms, mother-in-laws, and maid of honors).<br />
<br />
Brides typically have an idea in mind for the design which makes them especially easy to work with. My job is to take their vision and make it a reality. Here are some custom pieces that we at Amanda G Designs have created so far this year.<br />
<br />
For a peek into the shop and more pictures of unique signs follow @amandagdesigns on Instagram.<br />
<br />
This recent sign combines rustic and lace. It turned out great and I love all of the details.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/July15-4.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Lace Wood Sign photo July15-4.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/July15-4.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Tara and I probably set a record for the longest Etsy conversations I've had with a customer. We narrowed her package down to three signs: a guest book, direction sign, and a ring-bearer sign. They complimented each other perfectly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/blog.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Wood Sign Package photo blog.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/blog.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
April and Brandon requested a Texas Star on their "guest book."<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/blog-2.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Texas Star photo blog-2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/blog-2.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The Fayeds love their Boston Terrier and asked if I'd paint one on their "guest book." As a dog-lover myself, I thought it was an amazing idea and the sign turned out great!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/bostonterrier.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Boston Terrier photo bostonterrier.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/bostonterrier.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
This "wine glass stain" sign was a custom order for a vineyard wedding. It's also a popular new design available in the shop.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/June30-2.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Wine Stain photo June30-2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/June30-2.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I've been wanting to paint a horse-themed sign for some time now and I finally was asked to paint a horseshoe for a UK couple who are getting married at a barn in Texas.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/July10-3.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Horseshoe sign photo July10-3.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/July10-3.jpg" height="442" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
The "double state" design is another popular choice and can be customized in so many ways.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/June30-3.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Two States wood sign photo June30-3.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/June30-3.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
We named this design "two hearts become one."<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/7-2.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Dark Wood Sign photo 7-2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/7-2.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Jerome's wife contacted me for a birthday guest book sign for her husband's 40th birthday. She said it was a hit at the party!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
I was honored to paint a few signs for my friend Jarod's wedding to his beautiful wife, Amy. I ended up making a guest book, ring bearer sign, welcome sign and a couple of direction signs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/jarod.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Steele's Wood Sign photo jarod.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/jarod.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>

<br />
It makes my day when I check my messages and receive a picture from a couple of their sign hanging in their home. It's great to see the guest books complete with signatures.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Many of my favorite signs were unique custom orders. Several of them were a real challenge, but I enjoyed the process of getting to the finished product. Here is a round up of some custom orders in 2013.<br />
<br />
This huge and very heavy sign was a fun project that was requested by my brother-in-law.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpBddh4Tyj_itjlOj8vrMr4W2RmCyfeW-wdNlahfxnnEc25ajr8063wcU6Z6rRnCPU_UgtkK0j0vam-qbbmCgrrwAromMMcni5pPH6rpuH-PrgIddoPcXYfToGzMmQ7ZlAPGxc2aEdeqVZ/s1600/IMG_4975.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjpBddh4Tyj_itjlOj8vrMr4W2RmCyfeW-wdNlahfxnnEc25ajr8063wcU6Z6rRnCPU_UgtkK0j0vam-qbbmCgrrwAromMMcni5pPH6rpuH-PrgIddoPcXYfToGzMmQ7ZlAPGxc2aEdeqVZ/s1600/IMG_4975.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A previous customer ordered two more signs for her living room.<br />

Warren contacted me with a vision for a 5 year anniversary gift for his wife. Since the traditional 5 year gift is wood, he asked me to paint the South Carolina flag emblem with their names and wedding date on five boards. What a sweet guy - I'm sure he scored some major points with this gift.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/untitled-1078.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo untitled-1078.jpg" border="0" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/untitled-1078.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
This bride had a design in mind for her guest seating sign.<br />
Today as two families become one We ask that you please choose a seat not a side.<br />

Custom state signs are very popular in the shop right now. This Tennessee sign for Luke and Julie was first state sign I made, followed by many others.<br />

Wedding season was incredibly busy. I couldn't have imaged the response I would receive from my guest book designs. Now that wedding season has slowed down, I'd like to introduce the Holiday signs that are in the shop. <br />
<br />
This "Silver Bells" sign looks amazing on our mantle. Visiting NYC during Christmastime is on my bucket list. We won't be able to make it this year, so I thought I'd bring the skyline to our living room. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/untitled-1004-5.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="silver bells Amanda G Designs photo untitled-1004-5.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/untitled-1004-5.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
"Silver Bells" also comes with gray wood stain and black wording.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/untitled-1017-3.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Silver Bells Amanda G Designs photo untitled-1017-3.jpg" border="0" height="445" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/untitled-1017-3.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
"Fall on your knees." This elegant sign will have you humming Oh Holy Night all winter long.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/untitled-1035-2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="O Holy Night photo untitled-1035-2.jpg" border="0" height="448" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/untitled-1035-2.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I've been adding Luke 2:11 signs to the<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/AmandaGdesigns?ref=si_shop"> shop </a>all month long.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/untitled-1134.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Luke 2:11 wood sign Amanda G Designs photo untitled-1134.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/untitled-1134.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
This lovely sign is in our gallery wall in the living room. It's also a wonderful sign for any Thanksgiving mantle or hanging in the dining room.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/untitled-1023-4.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt="Thankful Grateful Blessed Amanda G Designs photo untitled-1023-4.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/untitled-1023-4.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
I know it's only mid-November but it's full-on Christmas at the Gardner house. We won't be hosting Thanksgiving this year, so why not? It's our favorite time of year so if we can stretch it out a few extra weeks, then we are all for it!<br />
<br />
Stop by <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/AmandaGdesigns?ref=si_shop">Amanda G Designs</a> and look around at the new items in the shop. And let me be the first to wish you a Merry Christmas!<br />

My girl is five. I look at my baby - fun-loving and shy - but gracefully maturing into a beautiful little lady. She starts Kindergarten this year and I'm terrified. When we talk about it and she sees the tears welling up in my eyes she reassures me with this speech, "Mommy, it's going to be okay. It will just be for a little while and you can go to Target while I'm gone. I have to go to school to learn stuff." I've heard it a dozen times already. She's so brave.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In May we went on our annual Disneyland trip during Mother's Day weekend to kick off the summer and celebrate her birthday. She agreed to have a small birthday party but insisted it have a Strawberry Shortcake theme. I grabbed her Strawberry Shortcake doll and we headed to JoAnn's for a few supplies. Six yards of fabric, a box of 12 mason jars, a string of Martha Stewart pom-poms and we were pretty much ready to party.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/strawberryparty-3-2.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo strawberryparty-3-2.jpg" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/strawberryparty-3-2.jpg" width="425" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Since it was June and the day heats up quickly we decided on a mid-morning brunch. The menu included Sausage Quiche, Muffins, Strawberry Greek Yogurt with granola, Fruit Salad and Cinnamon Rolls. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/strawberryparty-7.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo strawberryparty-7.jpg" border="0" height="425" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/strawberryparty-7.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a data-pin-config="none" data-pin-do="buttonPin" href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fgrowingupgardner4.blogspot.com%2F2013%2F07%2Fstrawberry-shortcake-party-noelle-turns.html&media=http%3A%2F%2Fi849.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fab55%2Fgardnerfamily2005%2Fstrawberryparty-7.jpg&description=Strawberry%20Shortcake%20Party%20-%20Growing%20Up%20Gardner"><img src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/pidgets/pin_it_button.png" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the backdrop, I cut the fabric into 5-inch strips and tied them using a slip knot onto a birch tree branch. I had the crates but painted them white and added the strawberry to the inside of the large crate.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The table was very quick and easy to set up. I found vintage Strawberry Shortcake fabric at Walmart for $3/yard. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/strawberryparty-3.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo strawberryparty-3.jpg" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/strawberryparty-3.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At Walmart I also picked up a couple bundles of cheap flowers and a bag of limes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/strawberryparty-4.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo strawberryparty-4.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/strawberryparty-4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/2011/05/refinished-desk.html">Noelle's refinished desk</a> was used as the beverage table. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/strawberryparty-5.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo strawberryparty-5.jpg" border="0" height="425" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/strawberryparty-5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mr. G drilled holes into the mason jar lids just big enough for the paper straws. It's a one time deal since the lids will rust if they are washed. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/strawberryparty-6.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo strawberryparty-6.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/strawberryparty-6.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the dining room I set up the dessert (strawberry shortcake and cupcakes) along with Noelle's previous birthday party invitations. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/strawberryparty-8.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo strawberryparty-8.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/strawberryparty-8.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When frosting cupcakes, I always whip a half teaspoon of vanilla extract into the frosting and pipe it onto the cupcakes for a bakery-style look. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/strawberryparty-9.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo strawberryparty-9.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/strawberryparty-9.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
For the craft, the friends decorated a clay pot with foam stickers and then planted a flower. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/strawberryparty-11.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo strawberryparty-11.jpg" border="0" height="266" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/strawberryparty-11.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm certain that no flower made it more than a day but it kept them busy for 10 minutes. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The 24" sticks fit perfectly snug in between the gaps on the side of the crate. Mr. G used wood glue to hold them in place. You can touch up the glue with spray paint when you're done assembling the stand.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Lastly, paint the plywood slab and use wood glue to secure it to the top of the sticks. Done! Such a cute little stand that can be used as a ticket counter for a circus party, lemonade stand, grocery store play, etc.</div>

DIY Race Track Tutorial</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-11x.jpg.html" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-11x.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-11x.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mr. G built this awesome race track for<a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/2013/02/colorful-race-car-birthday-party-noah.html"> Noah's Race Car Birthday Party</a>. He made a quick sketch of the track and headed to the hardware store for supplies. He tried using things we had in the garage (screws, rails, finishing nails) to keep the cost down. Including the spray paint, the total was around $60. Here's a (mostly picture) tutorial of how he and his little helper built the track.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-22.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-22.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-22.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Materials:<br />
1x12x8 - race track ramp<br />
2x3 pieces:<br />
(4) 12"<br />
16"<br />
(2) 3' side rails<br />
(2) 21" side rails<br />
(2) 14" side rails<br />
(2) 7" side rails<br />
(2) 7'9" ground beams<br />
8.5"<br />
(5) 3/4 x 8ft red oak decor shelf edges<br />
Finishing nails (for lanes)<br />
Dry wall screws or wood screws<br />
17.5" Large dowel<br />
6 Small dowels<br />
Spray Paint - Yellow, Orange, Red, Blue<br />
Flame Stencils (I made with my Silhouette Cameo)<br />
*Pre-Drill all holes<br />
<br />
1. Take the 1x12x8 ramp and brace it with the four 12" 2x3s at 2ft, 4ft, 6ft & 8ft (8ft will be the top of the ramp). These will act as supports for the track. Drill through the 2x3s into the ramp.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-1x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-1x.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-1x.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
2. At 2'2" (we used this measurement because it was perfect for Noah's height) drill the 3ft 2x3 side rails into the top support.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-2.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-2.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
3. Place the 16" 2x3 piece on top of the side rails and drill through the 2x3 into the rails.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-3x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-3x.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-3x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
4. Now drill all side rails (6) into the support pieces (6ft, 4ft, 2ft). Keep a leveler on the ramp and continuously check to make sure the ramp stays level.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-4x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-4x.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-4x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
5. One of the trickier parts is the 7'9" ground stabilizer beam. It goes on the inside of the side rails, underneath the ramp.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-21.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-21.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-21.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Drill through the side rails into the ground beam.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-5x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-5x.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-5x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
He angled the end of the beams so they fit semi-flush with the ramp in order to drill the ramp to the beams.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-6x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-6x.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-6x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Making sure that the ramp stays level while drilling.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-20.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-20.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-20.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
6. Use the 8.5" 2x3 piece and place it between the ground beams. Drill through the ground beams into the 2x3.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-7x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-7x.jpg" border="0" height="400" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-7x.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
7. Using a hammer, nail the rails into the ramp to act as the lanes. We tried a nail gun but it didn't puncture through the rails. Space them evenly across the ramp (roughly 3 inches apart, compensating for the width of the rails).<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-12.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-12.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-12.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Last step is to paint the track. The flames were made in a few steps.<br />
1. Spray yellow on the track<br />
2. Add orange<br />
3. Add red all the way to the bottom<br />
4. Place stencil over the yellow & orange and spray the top portion blue.<br />
5. Repeat for the side rails of the track.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE7ahzEr9PYKLjywvhIO7SYNYem1Nf8LzA8tOtFhawKjmIAnKer19P_x6pcS9kl9uo6e9a8Uvf1f9nA7Mx7cNdZ-fh4SkZapgyxV8HEHOBeECRz8o0FPxpUF_VYTJfygX5GusfDxUKG_s7/s1600/trackphotox.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgE7ahzEr9PYKLjywvhIO7SYNYem1Nf8LzA8tOtFhawKjmIAnKer19P_x6pcS9kl9uo6e9a8Uvf1f9nA7Mx7cNdZ-fh4SkZapgyxV8HEHOBeECRz8o0FPxpUF_VYTJfygX5GusfDxUKG_s7/s1600/trackphotox.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Once it was painted and completely dry, I added "START" and the lane numbers using a stencil.<br />
<br />
8. Optional: Car release lever. Drill holes just larger than the width of the large dowel (approx. 3/4") through the two front side rails.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-8x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-8x.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-8x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Drill 4 holes into the large dowel and push in the small dowels. The small dowels length will depend on the distance from the large dowel to the ramp. Then drill a hole at each end of the large dowel and push two small dowels through to act as the release levers.<br />
Spray paint the dowels before adding them to the track.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-9x.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-9x.jpg" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-9x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And there you have it! A race track any little boy would love to have! I took these pictures 5 months after the party and it is still in good shape - just normal boy wear and tear. He plays with it every day! I'd also recommend to spray the entire track with a couple coats of clear lacquer when it's finished.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/user/gardnerfamily2005/media/racetrack/racetrack1-10.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo racetrack1-10.jpg" border="0" height="425" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/racetrack/racetrack1-10.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />

<br />
My baby is now my big boy. Noah turned two on February 15th! We celebrated with a colorful race car themed party which included his favorite activities. It was a fun, exhausting, absolutely gorgeous day. We all had a blast!<br />
The food table is always one of the first things I plan for parties. Once we decided to go with a race car theme, I asked my dad if we could borrow his race track. Watching the cars zoom around the track was an unexpected element. I love the way it turned out.<br />
Here's a quick clip of the race track in action.<br />

<br />
For <a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/2012/02/red-wagon-1st-birthday-party.html">Noah's Red Wagon first birthday party</a>, I purchased a <a href="http://www.dimpleprints.com/">printable package from Dimpleprints</a>. All of the personalized touches really made that party special so I asked Carli for help once again. She is such a pleasure to work with and customized the package to fit the colors of the party.<br />
I made the "Three TWO One Go!" sign out of a 2ftx2ft slab of plywood. <br />
When the friends arrived, they grabbed a car to race on the track and an official Pit Pass. I have framed the kids birth announcements and invitations to display at their parties. I usually put them on the cake table so guests can see how they've grown.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-10x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="446" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-10x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Aaron's mom, Nana, made this delicious cake. The dent in the cake is from Noah reaching up to grab the car on top. Of course it was the only car he couldn't have that day, therefore the only one he wanted. And how sweet are these stop light Rice Krispies treats?<br />
<br /></div>

</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<br />
The weather was amazing, a huge blessing since we partied outside. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1000x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="393" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1000x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I mentioned in <a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/2013/02/happy-birthday-noah.html">Noah's birthday post</a> that he loves the movie Cars. There were a few touches of Cars here and there. The "Rust-eze" tub is made from one of Aaron's empty Muscle Milk containers. I cut out the logo with the Silhouette machine using black vinyl. More printables from the race car package. I used the cupcake toppers for the water bottles and added text on a couple of the larger circles for the drink pitchers.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1014x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1014x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
A successful party keeps the kiddos busy having fun. And when the kids are having a good time, the parents are able to enjoy their time as well. I set up four "stations" of activities for the party.<br />
1. Noah's Auto Body Shop<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1002x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1002x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The kids painted <a href="http://www.orientaltrading.com/design-your-own-unfinished-wood-cars-a2-27_975-12-1.fltr?Ntt=race+car">mini cars (Oriental Trading Company</a>). I picked up the acrylic paint and brushes from Michael's. The aprons are from the Dollar Tree.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1003x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1003x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Noah very seriously painted three cars. Then came back to paint another one.<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1007x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="400" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1007x.jpg" width="266" /></a><br />
<br />
Noelle is a bit of a perfectionist. Wonder where she gets it...<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1006.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1006.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The cars dried in the sunshine on brown construction paper.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1008x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="440" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1008x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
2. NJ Gardner Tattoo Parlor<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1005x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1005x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
My nephew, Evan, showing off his new ink. <a href="http://www.orientaltrading.com/race-car-tattoos-a2-39_2108-12-1.fltr?Ntt=race+car">Tattoos also from Oriental Trading Co.</a><br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1023x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="266" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1023x.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
3. Bean Bag Tire Toss<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1004x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1004x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The best part of these activities - they were inexpensive to put together.<br />
Tire toss = free (borrowed materials).<br />
Tattoos = $5.<br />
Painting Cars = $15<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1020.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1020.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
4. Race Track (not <i>that</i> inexpensive)<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1016x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1016x.jpg" width="490" /></a></div>
<br />
The kids loved racing their new cars. For the "official" races, Aaron flipped the release lever so 4 cars could start at the same time.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1017.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="266" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1017.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
<br />
Aaron drew out the plans and picked up the materials at Lowe's. The total cost was about $60 including the spray paint.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibGNcPh6_BgJs0dg4HowhOTbJ4HjKkbwEqHZMlPTXdtd5zxXZ5mvTe7gkh3iUiMFpLJ66HpiX4t5j2vTKQQD8KDATTOOiKQ7YKli5T21GkVloQpH0fY-QESFNVk9VCe2whK94mSFesjwqZ/s1600/14853cda748311e2a0d522000a1f970a_7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibGNcPh6_BgJs0dg4HowhOTbJ4HjKkbwEqHZMlPTXdtd5zxXZ5mvTe7gkh3iUiMFpLJ66HpiX4t5j2vTKQQD8KDATTOOiKQ7YKli5T21GkVloQpH0fY-QESFNVk9VCe2whK94mSFesjwqZ/s320/14853cda748311e2a0d522000a1f970a_7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once the track was built, he sprayed it by gradually adding yellow, orange and red. Then he covered the top of the colors with a flame stencil I cut out of vinyl, and sprayed on the blue. The end result was an awesome flame on the track as well as on the side poles. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf_r_M25gyhQ_lg-UPIRv4I1Vtj0FzlNE1a2DQsdNcxjbi6ut5LY-Y2mH1Tj4j5o8RgWdfN19UJuaMJLxGmNAIYR387FaVG5q2g1xQsOewDBQOPgly6lC9K5GNiJ3JnILwyDuXTE0sSd31/s1600/trackphotox.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgf_r_M25gyhQ_lg-UPIRv4I1Vtj0FzlNE1a2DQsdNcxjbi6ut5LY-Y2mH1Tj4j5o8RgWdfN19UJuaMJLxGmNAIYR387FaVG5q2g1xQsOewDBQOPgly6lC9K5GNiJ3JnILwyDuXTE0sSd31/s400/trackphotox.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">
The last steps included putting on the lanes, painting lane numbers and "START" to the top, then spraying the entire track with a clear sealer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">
Here's a tutorial on how the track was built! <a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/2013/05/diy-race-track-tutorial.html">DIY Race Track</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
And one more "Cars" touch. Lightning McQueen's eyes on Aaron's truck. Just two pieces of construction paper and eyes glued on. Super easy and a fun way to welcome our guests.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1034x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1034x.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Something that I heard several times was, "I wish I had that race track growing up" from the guys at the party. They were just as excited as their kids, probably because they are just big kids themselves!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1030x.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="400" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1030x.jpg" width="291" /></a><br />
<br />
A huge thanks again to Carli at Dimpleprints for the printables, to my handy husband for all he does, to my mother-in-law for the delicious cake, to my best friends and sister (my bridesmaids) for sharing the day with us and helping in many ways, to my mom and dad for all they do to make everything run perfectly smooth.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=NoahBirthday2-1027.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="501" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/NoahBirthday2-1027.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And one last HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my little man. I love you to the moon!<br />

<br />
You're two years old today. There's almost nothing in the world you love more than things with wheels. Cars, trains and planes. The only movie you've ever sat through is Cars and you would watch every day if you could. Lightning McQueen (or Queen, as you call him) is your favorite. Grandpa is probably on the top of your favorite list as well. If the doorbell rings, you yell "Grandpa!" and ask to see him any time we get in the car.<br />
<br />
One of the best parts of my day is going to your room in the morning. I lift you out of bed, carry you to change your diaper and clothes, then let you loose. You always run as fast as you can the second your feet hit the ground. "Off he goes," I whisper.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=Noah-1001.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noah-1001.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
You are talking more and more each day and I can't get enough of your sweet voice. You love letting me know what you want to eat and drink, what you hear, what you see.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=Noah-2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noah-2.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
You ask, "please?" when you need help and I love when you put your finger on your ear and say "choo train!" when you hear one passing through town.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=Noah-1008.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noah-1008.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Recently, you started asking me to watch you play. "Watch!" and I turn to see you standing on the couch ready to leap or holding an airplane as high as you can before letting it sail to the ground. But I'm watching so much more than that. I watch your eyebrows expressively lift and fall when you're playing and coloring.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=Noah-1004.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noah-1004.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I watch how your little fingers grip as many cars as they can hold. I watch how you copy everything your sister does and says. I watch your face when you're smiling for a flash of your adorable dimple. I watch you rub the silky edges of your blanket when you're tired, and because I'm your mama, I watch you sleep.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=Noah-1007.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noah-1007.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
The past year has been the most precious I've ever had. You complete our family and I couldn't imagine a day without you. At night when we're having some quiet time reading books, I tell you that if I could pick any little boy on the earth to be my son, I'd pick you every time.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=Noah-1003.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/Noah-1003.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Happy Birthday, baby boy.<br />
I love you,<br />

That sign was the only item in the shop for a while, but now that the Christmas season has passed, I have had the opportunity to add at least one new hand painted design each week.<br />
<br />
Here are a few of the<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/AmandaGdesigns?ref=si_shop"> Amanda G Designs </a>items in the shop right now.<br />

In addition to these designs, I've had the pleasure of creating custom pieces for several wonderful people. I have very much enjoyed collaborating with them to create meaningful artwork for their homes. The process from the first email with a simple scripture, to the finished product is thrilling for me. It is indeed a blessing to do something that I love.<br />
<br />
If you are thinking about starting up your own shop on Etsy, here are a few basic things I learned in the first month of opening my shop.<br />
<br />
1. Take your item to the post office (I use USPS) boxed and ready to ship <i>before</i> listing the item. The items in my shop are large and I knew they would be expensive to mail but it was very beneficial for me to learn the maximum dimensions to avoid "balloon" charges. Ask for the prices to ship across the country and to any other country you are willing to mail to. Also include tracking costs or insurance for the item.<br />
<br />
2. Pinterest is one of the best ways to promote your shop. I pin all of my designs to a board titled <a href="http://pinterest.com/gardner_an/signs-i-make/">"Signs {I make}</a>."<br />
<br />
3. Be open to making customizations to your items and consider all custom order requests.<br />
<br />
A huge thank you to those who have purchased a sign from my shop. I truly appreciate it! Be sure to follow <a href="https://www.facebook.com/pages/Growing-Up-Gardner/182550065137811?ref=ts&fref=ts">Growing Up Gardner on facebook </a>for updates on new items and coupon codes!<br />

Our dear friends recently welcomed their baby girl, Olive, to the world. Jeff and Nicole had a co-ed baby shower in San Luis Obispo, CA which was airplane themed and so much fun. For Olive's gift, I purchased a crate from Michael's, stained it, painted it white, distressed it, then used my Cameo to cut out "Olive" in hot pink vinyl. I also added her monogram to the other side of the crate and gave it a coat of weather-proof varnish.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When it was finished, I filled the crate with all of my must-have baby items and the most adorable lace outfit and headband on earth (<a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/ThinkPinkBows?ref=seller_info">from this Etsy seller</a>). On each gift, I taped a tag which said what the item was for and why I love it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-kV9Gv3s272s1SLX8AkuX_UOxESgfcRPF3kk-OFWbu8LU1P1broG5i6IK1s9w6a-D2y4t8nwT6k6OznUr8hm0nKk4-PE5NlkHNo9ZgO1vHHyrHjD1GH_YYMEiTIAWXFvufGmiE7f1BCyq/s1600/IMG_8154.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="452" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-kV9Gv3s272s1SLX8AkuX_UOxESgfcRPF3kk-OFWbu8LU1P1broG5i6IK1s9w6a-D2y4t8nwT6k6OznUr8hm0nKk4-PE5NlkHNo9ZgO1vHHyrHjD1GH_YYMEiTIAWXFvufGmiE7f1BCyq/s640/IMG_8154.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Now that Olive is here, and we are going to visit her tomorrow for the first time, I decided to make her a little onesie using my Silhouette Cameo and Smooth Heat Transfer Material. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had an idea of what I wanted the onesie to look like. Olive's daddy is an airline pilot (<a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/2011/10/when-i-was-flight-attendant.html">I flew with him back when I was a flight attendant</a>), so I searched for a cute airplane in the Silhouette Store and found this little fella for .99. For the back of the onesie, I created a design with the adorable saying, "First we had each other. Then we had you. Now we have everything." Seriously cute.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
When I was satisfied with the design I did the most important step - Mirror the Image! I wasted a good 6 inches of material by forgetting this step on a previous craft - major bummer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6XRiN-q5ocHS3QxmTdQjakNUHWzFxWjc4PScL54adjRwRx3qmd6Zm8HauvagNlsIhfYwVWMedEZpmO7Ed9poUy1aTE_Jp9cjv8obsVsAG5u4FDydO9Fy3dv3aIG1gfHxC6oZhLPHqoyDX/s1600/Screen+shot+2013-01-20+at+3.42.18+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="315" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6XRiN-q5ocHS3QxmTdQjakNUHWzFxWjc4PScL54adjRwRx3qmd6Zm8HauvagNlsIhfYwVWMedEZpmO7Ed9poUy1aTE_Jp9cjv8obsVsAG5u4FDydO9Fy3dv3aIG1gfHxC6oZhLPHqoyDX/s640/Screen+shot+2013-01-20+at+3.42.18+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is how the image looks mirrored. Since you'll be placing the image material side down, it will be right-side up when you iron it on.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgxkoufZCsbykMYLVtCdCcZFFxcllQWbHupMv4cRAVyHozPvDfLmXWbR7oMxeNBr5iGyzN9yttKF-Quye2GVmv6GpgXqGI2lIpzTaFNd7q6xep_JRrYxLmgLmPKsQYQyzydnn5LEo8WbwZ/s1600/Screen+shot+2013-01-20+at+3.39.13+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="324" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgxkoufZCsbykMYLVtCdCcZFFxcllQWbHupMv4cRAVyHozPvDfLmXWbR7oMxeNBr5iGyzN9yttKF-Quye2GVmv6GpgXqGI2lIpzTaFNd7q6xep_JRrYxLmgLmPKsQYQyzydnn5LEo8WbwZ/s640/Screen+shot+2013-01-20+at+3.39.13+PM.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After a couple of test cuts, I found this setting to be the most efficient for my machine: Smooth Heat Transfer, Speed 8, Thickness 14, Blade 1. No cutting mat.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_fvCjfpzP1rkTL0ktlZT7Vk2ffbkTjOPN3JZ5lkBtk6ESlctL5D2ULeKtej6K3p4iHpnVcbx3Swe8WMdTjHmM4yBi_CGPy2drxcAhI0-shq-4GQMkrK1sCGrGPst2BRHgeksr8Wx_KqAB/s1600/Screen+shot+2013-01-20+at+3.39.52+PM.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_fvCjfpzP1rkTL0ktlZT7Vk2ffbkTjOPN3JZ5lkBtk6ESlctL5D2ULeKtej6K3p4iHpnVcbx3Swe8WMdTjHmM4yBi_CGPy2drxcAhI0-shq-4GQMkrK1sCGrGPst2BRHgeksr8Wx_KqAB/s400/Screen+shot+2013-01-20+at+3.39.52+PM.png" width="341" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Once cut, I slowly peeled the excess material off the plastic sheet to reveal the image.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0234.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0234.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love the handy dandy hook tool and used it to pick the small pieces of extra material off the sheet. Side note - holy crap, the plastic sheet is sticky! And try not to touch the material too much or it will be tough to transfer.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0237.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0237.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I placed the image on the fabric and fired up the iron. I use the highest cotton setting on my iron. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0244.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0244.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
After a minute or two, I removed the protective sheet (which comes in the Heat Transfer box) and ironed directly on the plastic sheet for a few seconds. Also, after I carefully removed the plastic, I quickly pressed the iron over the material to give it a good seal. I'm not sure if this step is effective or not, it just makes sense to do it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0245.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0245.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The curly letters were a bit tricky and wouldn't transfer right away. I allowed the plastic sheet to cool before attempting to peel it away and that worked. If you're working with chunkier letters, it is easier to take the sheet off when it is still warm. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0248.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="400" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0248.jpg" width="266" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's the final result!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0261.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0261.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0263.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0263.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've enjoyed the few times I've been able to use the Heat Transfer material. This morning my sister ran in the Tinkerbell Half Marathon at Disneyland (along with 12,000 others). I made this EAT MY PIXIE DUST shirt (with Tinkerbell on the front) for her first 13.1mi race. Way to go, sis!</div>

I've been lucky enough to shop at this sale for the<a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/search/label/Target%20Toy%20Clearance"> past 4 years</a> and have scored some great deals but today's trip just might be my favorite. I set my budget at $100 and made a list of must-haves which included:<br />
1. Cars 2 set 2. Squinkies 3. Train set 4. Cars Space Mission set<br />
And I crossed my fingers for a tool bench - which I was stoked to find for $11.98!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0175.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0175.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I was able to get all of the large items on the list and found an extra bonus - A Baby Butterscotch Pony! Noelle asked for it for Christmas but this mama wasn't going to spend $100 on one toy. It is regularly $119.99, I snagged it for $35.98!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0162.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0162.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
WOOHOO!<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0163.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0163.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Noelle loves strumming on Aaron's guitar. This Princess one should be a fun gift for her 5th birthday and something they can enjoy doing together. It was $11.98, regularly $39.99.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0166.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0166.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
These Squinkies Crowns ($2.96) will be a huge hit for Noelle and my niece, Emma. There weren't any other Princess Squinkies but I did find Minnie Mouse Squinkies. These make great stocking stuffers!<br />
I chose this Thomas & Friends track because it is smaller than the others, it's motorized, and it had good reviews online. I'm not sure why but <a href="http://www.sears.com/thomas-friends-trackmaster-power-line-collapse/p-SPM6691699307?prdNo=12">Sears is selling it for $112</a>! It was $13.48.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0169.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0169.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
It is always smart to buy extra tracks when you find them on sale (make sure they match the track that you have). These were $5.66, regularly $18.89.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0171.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0171.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Another item on my list for Noah's 2nd birthday next month - $8.38. He absolutely loves cars, planes, and trains.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0170.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0170.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Noah will be having a Cars Themed party. These are also for his birthday. The extra Lightning McQueen was an accidental purchase. I let him hold it while I was browsing and I forgot to get it from him before we reached the register. At the rate he loses cars, it might be best to have a spare.<br />
Lightning McQueen $2.08, regularly $6.99<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0172.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0172.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Cars 2 Set $14.98, regularly $49.99<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0173.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0173.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I picked up this Squinkies Scepter for my sister (for her daughter) $2.96. I've never heard of Zonks but I know my nephew who likes Super Heros will love them (for an hour at least) $1.48.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0174.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0174.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
There was one full aisle of toys and two half aisles, plus 3 end caps.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC_4RDGpL5g8qyoAOeT_U5lzUcAIH-XS11PVwC7hDqywWwgYNQoihAAjRYhWXtAbe9-F4eXCVsRGgrAcYEsJ36TQ9HE69Ia9lrcgZoTEuIr3iC7LATdvfN-vL5W03ZGHrG9GSVg8HX7lmr/s1600/aislephoto.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC_4RDGpL5g8qyoAOeT_U5lzUcAIH-XS11PVwC7hDqywWwgYNQoihAAjRYhWXtAbe9-F4eXCVsRGgrAcYEsJ36TQ9HE69Ia9lrcgZoTEuIr3iC7LATdvfN-vL5W03ZGHrG9GSVg8HX7lmr/s400/aislephoto.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
I noticed many Cars 2 toys including single cars, several large Barbie items, a few Princesses (Cinderella, Rapunzel and Tiana), Cookie Monster and Elmo, Train sets, Hot Wheels tracks, and Leapfrog systems.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjScsHTCw8CMqMXw2Dl-lvUcNKazEQ5EK5xpjSwucBZcyIxsFHuDtZexPLXshS702YlOM6_4zGkciRhjZNcpqIEdtD0nP41OWYvUJR8Zy3w2qN4WMEK5KfNTcXFYvkEqBzZTZHtwLEpFql1/s1600/picstitch.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjScsHTCw8CMqMXw2Dl-lvUcNKazEQ5EK5xpjSwucBZcyIxsFHuDtZexPLXshS702YlOM6_4zGkciRhjZNcpqIEdtD0nP41OWYvUJR8Zy3w2qN4WMEK5KfNTcXFYvkEqBzZTZHtwLEpFql1/s400/picstitch.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
Total spent - $99.65 (I split the toys up into 2 transactions and used (2) $10 off $50 coupons. I also save 5% with every purchase using my Target Red Card.<br />
<br />
I use this sale to stock up for birthdays and Christmas. There is also a 70% off Toy Clearance in July. You can read about previous Toy Clearance trips <a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/search/label/Target%20Toy%20Clearance">HERE</a>. Good luck! I hope you find some great deals.<br />

<br />
Our little guy, Noah, was due on Valentine's Day in 2011. <a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/2011/08/noahs-birth-in-pictures.html">He ended up being born on the 15th </a>but my point is, with a birthday party coming up in a few weeks, I didn't want to go overboard with Valentine's Day decorations. They will be replaced soon enough by a race car themed 2nd birthday party (which I haven't begun to plan - better get on that).<br />
<br />
I had an extra canvas in my craft bin and after seeing <a href="http://www.craftaholicsanonymous.net/xoxo-canvas-tutorial-free-printable">this adorable DIY project from Craftoholics Anonymous</a>, I decided that it's about time to fire up my Silhouette Cameo and see what it could do.<br />
<br />
Turns out, I must be missing the vinyl talent because my version was less than perfect. I followed the directions exactly (and even used the mod podge trick) but when it came time to pull the stickers off I wasn't "left with a great looking love day decoration" as Linda claims. But she's a craft genius so I don't blame her for my unfortunate outcome.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=xophoto.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="400" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/xophoto.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
Not one letter peeled off perfectly. I would normally trash a <a href="http://craftfail.com/2013/01/top-12-craftfails-of-2012/">craft fail</a> like this but I decided to just go ahead and spend a few minutes fixing it up.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0129.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0129.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Good from far, but far from good.<br />
<br />
The next super easy craft for the mantle involved picking up heart-shaped doilies from the Target dollar section and stringing 5 of them from twine. Not much I could mess up with that. Although, they did come out of the package with a tear on the edge.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0132.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0132.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
I balanced the mantle out with a seashell-filled vase, vintage books and letter G.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=6D2A0147.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/6D2A0147.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
And called it a day.<br />

It has been a whirlwind of a year. Noelle turned 4 and Noah had his first birthday. Nothing has brought me more joy than watching my babies grow and play together. Their little personalities have me bursting into laughter every day. I am grateful beyond words to be their momma.<br />

At the end of July, <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/AmandaGdesigns?ref=si_shop">I opened an Etsy shop</a> after receiving many requests for my <a href="https://www.etsy.com/transaction/104469527">Luke 2:11 sign</a>. It has been a dream of mine to be able to do exactly this and thanks to my hard-working husband, my dream came true. He does the grunt work, preparing the wood for staining and putting everything together. My dad was also a huge help as I hustled to get the orders shipped. I've had a wonderful time not only doing something I love, but also getting to know many of my customers who have become friends. Keep an eye out in 2013 for many more designs added to the shop. </div>

This Christmas is classic and cozy with fresh greens in every room. I added a fresh garland to the sofa table, then the mantle, then the dining room and over the kitchen sink. The house has a cabin feel this year and it smells divine. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_0678fix.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_0678fix.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'm loving my "instant collection" of trees. I rounded them up during a Christmas decoration shopping day in November. Hobby Lobby, Marshall's and Home Goods did not disappoint. I love the whimsical-ness they have.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_0722fix.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_0722fix.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>

Deep reds and greens with touches of creamy white bring our classic Christmas together.<br />

<br />
On the mantel, Mr. G and I put a faux gate together and on it hung a fresh wreath. A garland and a pinecone pick in the wreath finish off the simple mantle. I used an anti-transpirant spray on the greens to keep them fresh. I hope they last a few more weeks, but I'm having doubts already. I used two 15 ft. garlands from Home Depot for the house. Picking up another 2 for $5 each before Christmas won't break the bank if need be. Another change to the family room is a swap out in rugs. This<a href="http://www.target.com/p/xhilaration-solid-shag-rug/-/A-11061511#prodSlot=medium_1_4&term=shag%20rug"> fluffy shag rug</a> is from Noelle's room.<br />

<br />
When decorating our tree I use these steps:<br />
1. Start with any ribbon or garland, 5 times around the tree.<br />
2. Add any themed ornaments evenly around the tree<br />
3. Find spots for your "treasures" (handmade and special ornaments)<br />
4. Fill in with bulbs.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_0703fix.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_0703fix.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Noah is a big fan of the tree, and the "balls" that hang on it. Which is why the bottom branches are no longer decorated. Little stinker has ran off with several ornaments.<br />

In the kitchen, a fresh garland is strung above the sink window. The garland will collect all of our cards over the month and into the new year. These are our Christmas cards from the past 4 years, since Noelle's first Christmas.<br />

Stores like Target and Michael's will scan coupons on smart phones, eliminating the need for paper coupons. I usually have both kids with me while running errands and I've found myself panicking during check out, flipping through my inbox for coupons too many times. To resolve this problem, I started organizing my emailed coupons in a photo album on my iPhone and it has been a complete time saver.<br />
<br />
When I get an emailed coupon from a store that I frequent (Michael's, JoAnn, Hobby Lobby, Fresh & Easy), I take a quick screenshot of the coupon on my phone by holding down the power button and the Home button at the same time. The screen will flash and the image is immediately saved in the photo album.<br />
It looks like this:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5r9hbHye-Gm1NOKIV8iJ5DMA3k5635KYpdCOxR7On04ZoP43hkklxaZSig2Fxr-srWu0WPL5BjXfDFF8lYqfkj4lBrfTf1cGdp36CvQ4HlTOTggNXKX2DsM_QSs4JFqdMDW9MZdLHHp1Y/s1600/3photo.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi5r9hbHye-Gm1NOKIV8iJ5DMA3k5635KYpdCOxR7On04ZoP43hkklxaZSig2Fxr-srWu0WPL5BjXfDFF8lYqfkj4lBrfTf1cGdp36CvQ4HlTOTggNXKX2DsM_QSs4JFqdMDW9MZdLHHp1Y/s320/3photo.PNG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
TO ADD AN ALBUM click on the photo album app > Edit (top right) > Add (top left) > Name Your Album (Coupons)</div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk9AO-wi0n8Rk_9B7Fq_mSj40Xkv4s9H3DRuPX7KUi8ngwN5758rSgzXz-z9Hq3MvwLOwOhL4_4qgs57i_RrLCybm2QeyQDVoQi71qNgBdHdO9QP-HyYe391L1l8ucUP0hsP5uQIzlplZZ/s1600/2photo.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk9AO-wi0n8Rk_9B7Fq_mSj40Xkv4s9H3DRuPX7KUi8ngwN5758rSgzXz-z9Hq3MvwLOwOhL4_4qgs57i_RrLCybm2QeyQDVoQi71qNgBdHdO9QP-HyYe391L1l8ucUP0hsP5uQIzlplZZ/s400/2photo.PNG" width="266" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
To get the coupon images into your Coupon album go to your Camera Roll > Move Photo (top right) > touch each image you want to move > Add To (bottom) > Add to Existing Album > Coupons<br />
<br />
And all the coupons for the week (or month) will be in one place for easy access (and stress-free checkouts).<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU_hcF7QfdVfqEOD0S7kLOaPcx2UMAGPciTT6APdJBdQnQVYjIAgG3AdcXM_ZVx8A4XFDxbJ-ZQ7s1u2mGJqw0p3LW2IehVUjX_VLT8VTd27R5wzHFhXwVWYi48tD3caK0_E3mJqEk6qCw/s1600/1photo.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhU_hcF7QfdVfqEOD0S7kLOaPcx2UMAGPciTT6APdJBdQnQVYjIAgG3AdcXM_ZVx8A4XFDxbJ-ZQ7s1u2mGJqw0p3LW2IehVUjX_VLT8VTd27R5wzHFhXwVWYi48tD3caK0_E3mJqEk6qCw/s400/1photo.PNG" width="266" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Simply delete them when they expire and start over. I've found that my inbox is much more organized as well because I delete the emails after I take the screen shot. Having the coupons in a photo album also saves on battery power!<br />

It seemed like an appropriate day to make an easy fall craft with the kids. They also needed some winding down after a fun morning of autumn initiation activities - puddle jumping and tree shaking.<br />
<br />
{Pumpkin Plate Craft}<br />
Paper Plate - Paint brush - Orange Paint - Construction Paper (green, brown, black) - Glue<br />
<br />
I didn't have anything planned so I went with an old standby - paper plates. First, I read <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Its-Pumpkin-Day-Mouse-Give/dp/069401429X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1349985900&sr=8-1&keywords=it%27s+pumpkin+day+mouse">It's Pumpkin Day, Mouse</a>, in which the mouse paints different faces on his pumpkins. Then I gave the kids a plate, brush and orange paint. While they worked at covering the entire plate orange, I asked them what face they wanted on their pumpkin (just like in the book) - happy, sad, surprised, silly or scary. They cut out the face, along with a stem and leaves. Then they glued the pieces onto their pumpkins. <i>The leaves turned out to look more like unibrows, so you might want to try to glue crinkle paper on instead. </i><br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_9016fall.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="385" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_9016fall.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Scary, Silly, and Surprised faces.<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_9022fall.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_9022fall.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Noah loves all of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=Mouse+books+Laura+Numeroff">Laura Numeroff's Mouse books</a>.<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_9027fall.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="426" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_9027fall.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
As I said, the morning was spent puddle jumping and enjoying the cool air and cloudy sky.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_9032fall.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="382" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_9032fall.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
My niece, Emma, is not afraid of getting dirty.<br />
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=PicMonkeyCollagefall.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="211" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/PicMonkeyCollagefall.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Noah, new to puddles, decided puddle slapping was much more entertaining. Whatever works, kid.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_9060.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="287" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_9060.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And there was tree shaking. The leaves aren't quite ready to fall. We only had a few takers, but a few was all we needed.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_9040.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_9040.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
Welcome, fall. We are so glad you've arrived.<br />

Our fall decorations are up. They've been up for a couple of weeks now. We are enjoying them, but right now, Michael Buble Holiday on Pandora is blasting from the speakers in the living room. Martina McBride's version of Baby It's Cold Outside captivated us immediately. Noelle's dancing and twirling her Little Mermaid umbrella. Noah is running around in his pajama's and Aaron is smoking chicken out back taking regular breaks to peak at football scores. It's a typical weekend morning at the Gardner house.<br />
<br />
Soon we'll be hosting friends for a BBQ, but first, I'll give you a quick tour of our fall decor (which is just the beginning since we haven't visited the pumpkin patch yet).<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_8964gug.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="640" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_8964gug.jpg" width="426" /></a></div>
<br />
To make this sunburst-style corn husk wreath, first gather the supplies: corn husks, small-medium size wreath (any material should work. I already had this one from the Target dollar section), and a glue gun.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://s849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/?action=view&current=IMG_8930gug.jpg" target="_blank"><img alt="Photobucket" border="0" height="425" src="http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab55/gardnerfamily2005/IMG_8930gug.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br />
<div style="text-align: left;">
First soak the corn husks in water until they are pliable. Drain the water and peal the layers to open the husks and let them air dry. While they are still damp, wrap individual husks around the front of the wreath, hot gluing the back and front of the husk to the wreath. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Continue around the wreath several times, making the tips of the husk shorter each time around.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">

Besides making the corn husk wreath and picking up the Target pumpkins, I didn't buy anything new this year. In fact, the orange bins labeled "fall" in the garage are still half full. Which either means I'm in a continuous downsizing trend or I have too much stuff to begin with.</div>

The weather is cooling off here in California. There was even a chill in the air this morning that required a sweater for fetching the <strike>coupons</strike> Sunday paper out front. Although Mariah's "All I Want For Christmas" has everyone bobbing around the house, we can wait for a little longer for winter. There's still pumpkins to pick and turkey (or three) to slice. Happy fall.<br />

I was hesitant to go at first because of the long drive. Two kids trapped in a car all day was sure to be miserable and most likely wouldn't be worth the fun memories we would make over the weekend. I was wrong.<br />
<br />
My children surprised me. Once again proving that they are much more resilient than I give them credit for. They are road trip super stars.<br />
<br />
After nearly 8 hours in the car we arrived in lake paradise.<br />

The rest of us didn't do so bad either. Can't complain when there's great food, continuous laughter with dear friends and a hot tub on the roof waiting to take our aches away.<br />
<br />
Aaron and I took the kids for their first jet ski ride. Noelle waved to everyone on land like a beauty queen on a parade float. And Noah fell asleep. Wrapped in a foam vest, soothing water sounds and rhythmic movement - how could he resist?<br />

We've been feeling the need to get away from the house more than ever lately. The sweetness of the summer months when we were all home together has soured with late hours at work and daily evening activities. Taking a break from our new routine allows us a dose of family time that is otherwise impossible.</div>

<br />
I've experienced moments this month that have literally taken my breath away. Taking a minute to appreciate God's glorious creation from the middle of a vast lake. Watching my children play with my best friend's children - something we've talked about happening since we were in 5th grade. And hearing my college roommate bravely describe her breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.<br />
<br />
I know these are growing moments. Eye-opening lessons. The unfathomable power of our God. The realization that time is quickly passing by. And the uncertainty of the future. Being busy and overworked is not how we want to live so we are consciously taking time together as a family by getting away.<br />

We celebrated Noah's half birthday this week.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwCdVVSvvtRqffDsNln44wWjdYou7rw7X1kXJAH0EvaNNu6eRNeIAfGNsceiiVLIudK7dsO3IR5xLGvfgfaGri7qeIerXTpGsg3r1_6TZ_Qgrt3-7ykPs-8ZfuM_o5dL1t8W0fztg_5158/s1600/5e4b0f34e75c11e1a15422000a1e8939_6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwCdVVSvvtRqffDsNln44wWjdYou7rw7X1kXJAH0EvaNNu6eRNeIAfGNsceiiVLIudK7dsO3IR5xLGvfgfaGri7qeIerXTpGsg3r1_6TZ_Qgrt3-7ykPs-8ZfuM_o5dL1t8W0fztg_5158/s1600/5e4b0f34e75c11e1a15422000a1e8939_6.jpg" style="cursor: move;" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
My little man. He is awesome. During my pregnancy with him I was terrified that I wouldn't connect with a boy. Noelle and I were such a great team, how was I going to handle having a little boy? It didn't take long for me to understand the bond other mom's of boys described to me.<br />
Noah and I have something special. Some days Noelle can be...complicated. Noah is just a guy ready to laugh and figure stuff out. And I love watching him do just that.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3JAjWeaUUcuGvO38r8531hCCPpIPia7iU32PN35r6aRjzgA6GkaCeWfHU2asqaB7Usdz7iUO-Bxw7cZUamp2lXJPufnLIHWAvZ40FFLq7TQBiNy2tW-55YUn2ORbl7BKSc75BrsQLX_jM/s1600/081e7652ed5411e1afd122000a1e8836_6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3JAjWeaUUcuGvO38r8531hCCPpIPia7iU32PN35r6aRjzgA6GkaCeWfHU2asqaB7Usdz7iUO-Bxw7cZUamp2lXJPufnLIHWAvZ40FFLq7TQBiNy2tW-55YUn2ORbl7BKSc75BrsQLX_jM/s1600/081e7652ed5411e1afd122000a1e8836_6.jpg" style="cursor: move;" /></a></div>
<br />
Here's what he has been up to lately:<br />
Noah has 12 teeth and currently has 4 more coming through. Good thing he has so many chompers because he eats like a teenager. Seriously. The kid will put down three slices of pizza in one sitting.<br />
<br />
He is a very active little guy. And by "active" I mean destroying everything he gets his hands on and then usually throwing it.<br />
<br />
His favorite things are Brinkley (our dog), being chased, playing in the little pool, coloring and reading books at bed time.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFqYGQqEjf7spfIOBY7qO7uwN4emjcdw7fMZFOGHeFIqh9rg2dIri2eVD119hTNFdPjMsI9i5sioFQQCSVy5QFjPqlZKHitxrhdNQ-ksunfxgM8kyVWw0n2mEirkrJ-ptk0LdN4njmjTiA/s1600/de5ab62aecb611e1ac3022000a1e868a_6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhFqYGQqEjf7spfIOBY7qO7uwN4emjcdw7fMZFOGHeFIqh9rg2dIri2eVD119hTNFdPjMsI9i5sioFQQCSVy5QFjPqlZKHitxrhdNQ-ksunfxgM8kyVWw0n2mEirkrJ-ptk0LdN4njmjTiA/s1600/de5ab62aecb611e1ac3022000a1e868a_6.jpg" style="cursor: move;" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
When Noah was 15 months old he refused to nurse. It happened over a period of three days which were very hard on me. I tried everything I knew to get him interested, but nothing worked. I planned to breastfeed him for at least 18 months but now that I think about it, that goal was unrealistic. There's no way my busy boy would sit still long enough. At the beginning of this month, the kids started "school." It's an Spanish/English Parent & Me program that is funded by the state of California. It's just a couple hours each week but I feel very blessed to have gotten them enrolled. Noelle is interested in learning Spanish and has been picking it up quickly through her teachers and the other Spanish-speaking kids in the class. <br />

Noelle is also keeping busy being mommy's big helper and the most amazing little girl. I cried last week when I checked my facebook and scrolled through many First Day of School pictures. Kindergarten is one short year away. My baby is going to leave me for the first time. Honestly, I can't handle the thought. Someone recently told me that it gets better the older they get. I'm sure they're right, but in this moment I don't believe them and I want my baby to be four forever.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Tonight we made a step towards the direction of Kindergarten. It was her first day of Awana's at our church. I explained to her that it will be just like Sunday school but a little longer and super fun. She cried when she got out of the car and begged me to take her back home. But we made it to check-in and once she got in her classroom she immediately walked over to a couple of girls and started playing. Two hours later I was the first parent in line and kissed her sweet face a million times. Then we went out for ice cream. She can't wait for next week.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br />
I'm so proud of my babies. Growing up and becoming incredible people. I'm desperately trying to live in the moment more often. My mind has a way of sending me to the future where they are grown and I miss them so much that it's literally painful.<br />

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I hope I remember special moments like this. When I look behind me and see my heart walking hand-in-hand. And I hope they know how much I love them. "All the way to the moon and even the sun" as Noelle says. </div>

A man being treated for psychiatric care escaped from the nearby hospital and made his way to the rooftop of the Target, Michael's, Marshall's and Pet Smart shopping center and threatened to jump. The stores were closed for the majority of the morning while police officer's negotiated with the mentally ill man. Over eight hours later in 90 degree heat, the man finally climbed down a latter to safety.<br />
<br />
I waited until all was clear to make my regular Monday shopping trip. It turned out to be much more successful than I planned. I came home with several free or really cheap items and saved over $30 with coupons.<br />
<br />

I didn't bring home a <a href="http://growingupgardner4.blogspot.com/2011/07/target-toy-clearance-75-off.html">haul anything close to last year</a>, but I was still able to find a few things on my list for Christmas.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdChQXCBJRT3Tcttq_Kxp0-ox2m-IGnYzqXAo5nRCbpXt9Gi6W31gIiyKL3NzYtFl_7MZdcvyNrLorNRD-APPYGUfo_wTt5_nvvFcJll2kUgoXp4rvIJgnD0khgIbM6I3I9bli4owhuTXm/s1600/haul.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdChQXCBJRT3Tcttq_Kxp0-ox2m-IGnYzqXAo5nRCbpXt9Gi6W31gIiyKL3NzYtFl_7MZdcvyNrLorNRD-APPYGUfo_wTt5_nvvFcJll2kUgoXp4rvIJgnD0khgIbM6I3I9bli4owhuTXm/s400/haul.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
</div>
My favorite item is the vtech talking puzzle marked down from $17.99 to $5.21. I also picked up a vtech ABC Text & Go game system for $4.18, two Belle Squinkies bracelet sets for $1.48, and a $44.38 Mega Bloks play table for $13.31. I noticed many Little People sets, My Little Pony, Barbie's and large play sets marked down to 70% off throughout the aisles. <br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJEB0Zg5nPsyHdBU663985kOHYdmfiDDqjZooL0a6XOreFR94SIYZtNZZd36KKWLEs-oZxzbxWzigbpLUHXrCe8ThTgiVzQ8ftWyiKzWxMvWrVHRE2N4xMtRTu1LnLdd11074Q4LSO4i9r/s1600/1photo.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgJEB0Zg5nPsyHdBU663985kOHYdmfiDDqjZooL0a6XOreFR94SIYZtNZZd36KKWLEs-oZxzbxWzigbpLUHXrCe8ThTgiVzQ8ftWyiKzWxMvWrVHRE2N4xMtRTu1LnLdd11074Q4LSO4i9r/s400/1photo.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div align="center">
<br /></div>
On facebook this morning I read through several posts from Target shoppers who were waiting around for the mark downs to happen - you don't need to do that. I cruise the aisles for items I want and pile them in my cart. If they haven't been marked down, I take them to a scanning machine. Let's say I have a Princess doll marked as 30% off but it scans 70% off, I can then wait and ask an employee for a red tag sticker, or I can just take it to the register where it will ring up 70% off. If the item doesn't scan any lower, then you'll need to ask an employee to check it for you.<br />
<br />
Hope you find some good deals today! <br />

Our patio cover is finished! Hooray for shade. Especially in this ridiculous heat. We decided to go all the way and add stucco to match the rest of the house which led to the addition of three ceiling fans and two built-in speakers. The new sound system needed a home so I searched high and low for a little cabinet but was unsuccessful. Until I stubbled upon a beat up blue disaster at the thrift store for $6. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Mr. G thought I had seriously lost it but I saw potential. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3ZVdQYjNvoWnQVBBOGAnRJwZYdP9IBjcbb2mP-pwiaqVi8PKj3b6h3SGPzTtJOrpdVL9Wj_jkY5JQWLe1DXIaCrTIyMXTa9El34KNu2Oxc4MuyJi0WSiP4BVBBchu3_q6PPswC0xE71yM/s1600/cabinetmakeover.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj3ZVdQYjNvoWnQVBBOGAnRJwZYdP9IBjcbb2mP-pwiaqVi8PKj3b6h3SGPzTtJOrpdVL9Wj_jkY5JQWLe1DXIaCrTIyMXTa9El34KNu2Oxc4MuyJi0WSiP4BVBBchu3_q6PPswC0xE71yM/s400/cabinetmakeover.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The cabinet is the perfect size for the patio, it just needed some love. And love often comes in a spray paint bottle. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Here's what to do.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
1. Sand the varnish off. I didn't do much, just scuffed it up.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
2. Wipe off with a damp cloth and add a coat or two of spray paint. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
3. Allow the paint to completely dry and distress the piece with sand paper. Wipe clean again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
4. Paint on the wood finish and wipe off with a clean rag. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
5. Add new hardware if necessary.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

Nothing is safe from being paired with bacon when I'm in the kitchen. Asparagus is one of my favorite things to wrap in the salty goodness. When Mr. G plans on grilling I usually prepare this side dish for him to throw on along with the steak, chicken, or salmon. It goes with everything. </div>

1. Blanch the asparagus in bowling water for 30 seconds</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
2. Soak them in an ice bath until cooled</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
3. Coat in olive oil and season with salt and pepper</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
4. Wrap in bundles of 3-4 with one slice of bacon then roll them in the </div>

olive oil mixture leftover on the plate.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
5. Grill for 15 minutes, making quarter turns. Or until the bacon is cooked.</div>

To be honest, I love the asparagus even more wrapped with prosciutto instead of bacon. It's also easier to prepare because you don't need to cook the prosciutto, just crisp it up. Follow the same steps but adjust your cooking time based on how fast the prosciutto is browning. </div>
